Jebel Shams Mountain range:
The highest in the Middle East, to admire the breathtaking sunset. It is known for its stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, and is a popular destination for hiking, camping, and off-roading.
 
Jabal Shams means Mountain of the Sun as it is the first place where the sun rises in Oman. It is also known as the Grand Canyon of Arabia and is the world's second largest canyon. Here you will see cliffs that stretch up to 3,000 meters above sea level, and a fantastic view of the area.
The deep, narrow gorge is often called the Arabian Grand Canyon and is one of the most beautiful places in Oman. It is also known for the view into the spectacularly deep Wadi Ghul.
The Balcony Walk in Jabel Shams is a fantastic walk that takes you along the edge of canyons. You follow an ancient donkey path, which follows the west flank of the An Nakhur Gorge and leads to the abandoned village of As Sab. The tour starts from the parking area at the top of the mountain and follows the coloured markers along the edge of the canyon, overlooking the amazing views and the impressive landscape.

The roundtrip is about six kilometers long and takes about three hours. The Balcony Walk is a great tour for those who want to experience some of the most impressive natural beauty Oman has to offer. You will walk on an old donkey path, partly exposed to heights, but easy going.

At the end of the trip, you will enjoy a barbecue dinner under the starry sky. If you're lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of the Milky Way galaxy.
